45th Reunion - Messages Before the Party
Hi Linton ClassmatesI wish you all a wonderful time at all the events. Wish I could be there with you. It's been a difficult spring and summer for me and Don, and a trip back east just isn't sensible this year. Next time, I hope! I'm really enjoying our connection through these emails and the web site. Thanks, Pete, and all the others who've made this possible.Happy reunion!Joanna Woodrow Hi, Linton Classmates,I can't make it either. I'm going to be in Europe, visiting the Baltic countries -- a trip that my husband Al (whom many of you met at the 40th -- he loved it) and I had planned before he became ill and died at age 59 of a brain tumor. I shall miss you all, and I thank those of you who have reached out to me at what was and remains a difficult and lonely time. You cannot know how much your support has meant to me. I truly hope I make it in five years, and I look forward to seeing you at that time. Have fun and party big!!Fondly,Jane Cohen Bergner(If you note the time of this email, you will know that I'm in the office, trying to finish everything, on a Saturday night; There must be a 50's song about this!) I'm sorry I will not be able to attend the reunion. I am retired in Charleston, SC and my husband has MS and is bedridden. I know you will all have a great time. Hope to be at the 50th, God willing.Thank you to you and your committee for all your hard work.Jan Malonynee Janice Rogers Have a wonderful reunion. I am sorry that I cannot attend. Thank you to all of the reunion committee and I wish you all a wonderful time. As with Joanne, a trip to the east coast is not in the works for me this year. Maybe next time.Have a great time,Phyllis Balis YoungReno, NV Dear Peter and reunion committee,Thank you for all your effort in putting the reunion together. I regret that I am unable to attend. Sincerely, Lois Etkin Peter, it was wonderful talking with you in April. Boy, luck was with you that day in reaching me at the hospital. I retired a week later! I have really enjoyed all the emails and pictures and walking down memory lane. I know the reunion festivities will be fabulous and I wish everyone a wonderful time and perfect weather. I had really thought I could get back to the East Coast but it is just not in the cards.Leigh (Leona) Van Natten JanisBrownsboro, Texas (East Texas region - area where the shuttle Columbia was lost) Hi Peter,We are sorry Linda and I cannot attend the reunion. The contractors have finely showed up to finish repairing the damage to our house from Hurricane Charley last year and Linda returns to work Aug. 1st. at school. The kids return Aug. 8th. I hope to finish the house repairs and go fishing, or play golf or, or, or anything but work. Have a great time at the reunion. We are planning on being at 50th.Linda and Jerry AllwayCape Coral, Florida(Home of the Hurricane)I will be unable to attend the class reunion. On August 15, I will retire from my position
as payroll specialist after 26 years of service. At that time, I will no long have an
e-mail address since I don't have a home computer. I do want to stay on your mailing
address list so, I can attend our 50 class reunion.
My future plans are to do some traveling, work on crafts and continue my volunteer work.
Also, I'm planning to move East when I turn 65 or soon after. Right now, I'm looking at
55 and over communities in Virginia or the Caroline's. Will keep you all posted.
Regards to the Class of 1960.
KATHY SZUMILOSKI Hi Peter-Assuming you received my e-mail of last evening. Joan and I actually did pretty well coming up with a lot of the lyrics of the first stanza of the song. From memory yet!In a few days we'll be erasing years and recalling memories. Am looking forward to the coming weekend with enthusiastic& happy anticipation. Please know that we all are very grateful for the entire committee's efforts over these many months. What a fabulous team effort!
Fond regards, Patty Basile Miller Hi Peterokay, I seem to remember:with song and cheer'til the shouts of victoryring loud and clearBear in my mind my memory is not too reliable these daysJulie Ruscitto Nelson Hi Peter,
Yes, you are right that was a misprint. The line should read:
"Our hearts best we offer at your call"
Since I'm being compared to Miss Gurenesy you will be able to recognize me
at the reuion, I'll have my hair up in a bun and be wearing sensible shoes.
Best regards................Tom Halstead
Hi Peter,
I'm a graduate of Washington Irving (we were educated in more ways than one, having come from Riverside), and I do not remember a school song. With regards to the Linton Alma Mater, I think that the song you have listed was a game song, sung by the Pep Club. Originally, we learned the alma mater for Nott Terrace, which I remember being quite lovely. There were many tears when we sang it for the last time, on the closing day of classes at Terrace. Then, Linton didn't have one for a while. When we did get one, I remember it being rather difficult verbally and musically. I don't remember it at all, except that I didn't like it for those reasons.
Looking forward to this weekend. It appears that many people (like myself) are very grateful for all of the correspondence and hard work by the committes. It would have been more rewarding for all of you if the turnout was a little larger. But, with all of this in place, it sets things up very nicely for the next one. It seems that many have their sights set on the 50th.

Peter,Have a great time. You have done a wonderful job. I have so enjoyed the messages back and forth. I have even heard from several "lost" classmates. I do hope all of us who are unable to attend make it to our 50th reunion. Enjoy the whole weekend. I will be thinking of you!

Hi...I have been receiving your e mails although I don't think I know any
of you as I graduated from Linton in 1967. I think you had a person with
the last name of Elston in your class and that is my married name and I
must have gotten cross referenced somehow. My husband was not from
Sch'dy and is now deceased so no connection. At first I just deleted the
messages but then would see headers that brought back memories like Miss
Gurnsey and the songs, etc. You seem like such a great fun group and I
wanted to wish you all a wonderful time at your reunion. By the
way...there is a beautiful Alma Mater in addition to the fight
song..can't remember all the words but maybe someone will still come up
with it. I am a teacher off for the summer and thanks again for the
memories over a cup of coffee each morning. Of course, Miss G always said
to only drink plain hot water... and to eat a whole raw onion each day as
it was good for you...she lived to become a legend...might be worth a
try! Have lots of fun...enjoy the weekend!!Sherry Villano Elston Peter. I would be there in a heart beat, but with loosing my husband just 1yr and 8 mos. it would be to hard. I have enjoyed the e-mails and all the work you have done and hopefully I will be there for the 50th. Have a great time.Lynne Arndt DeMatteo Good Morning Peter!!! Hope you all had a fun time last night....This
am I located the words to the Linton Alma Mater ...these are
official...right out of the "Your Guide To Linton" which I had no idea I
still had in my possession. I was upset to hear that the school had not
been of much help to you. I teach in a HS and we bend over backward for
out alumni...they have an office and bulletin board in the main hallway.
Last weekend they had all of their reunions and celebrations...I entered
my '69 Playboy pink mustang in their classic car show and attended some
of their receptions as did many of our current and retired faculty...we
do nice things for them and they do nice things for us ...tradition is a
big thing in the school.
If you believe things happen for a reason...this might be why I ended up
on your list ..so in answer to your question ...sure leave me on the list
...we might be able to share info for future events. Without further
delay ....here is the Alma Mater...I knew the first line and when I saw
it ...it all came back....wish I could hum the tune for you too...it is
pretty ...very hymn-like...I'm sure someone will recall it.
