50th Reunion Event
Ya'll did a wonderful job with the reunion. The idea of a three day get-together was great, because we were able to spend enough time together. It was fun, let's take a cruise next time! Special appreciation to Tom Halstead for arranging the "The School Tour." Some time ago I said to him that I thought it would be a good idea to determine "...if gravity has had the same effect on the school as it has had on us," and, in fact, it has. Schenectady High School is not Linton High School. We were blessed. Photo CD to follow. Cordially, Doug and Elizabeth Gresham
Hi Peter: Just wanted to express again to you and the committee what a wonderful wonderful weekend we had. I enjoyed it so much. I appreciate all the hard work that went into making this so successful. Today was great. Please pass along my appreciation to the committee. Thanks Naomi
Pete: Just a BIG thanks for a great weekend. Please extend my congrats to the entire committee on a super job. Was VERY apprehensive about going but am so glad I did. Great weather (who was in charge of ordering that?), great food, and lots of great people. (We really were, weren't we?) Donna (Peek) Fairlee
Hi Peter: I had a wonderful time this weekend. It certainly was great feeling the love from everyone and all the smiling faces that were there. Thank you for being the friendly person and leader you are and making everyone feel special. You did a fantastic job along with the rest of the committee. I did forget and leave behind my favorite coffee mug (large black mug with red top). Whoever may have found it, enjoy. Love, Julie
Hi Pete, I just want to let you know how much I enjoyed the 50th reunion at the Western Turnpike. It was great to see everyone. So glad that I was able to attend. Special thanks to your reunion committee what a great job. Barb
Dear Peter and committee, I want to thank all of you for your effort in putting together a fantastic reunion. I truly enjoyed seeing so many of my classmates and enjoying a walk down memory lane. Thank you so much for your excellent planning. You did a great job! Both Davis and I had a wonderful time. With love, Lois Etkin
Hello Pete, and all members of the committee and the 1960 LHS classmates who attended this awesome event--my husband Paul and I had such a wonderful time this whole weekend. It was great meeting classmates that I hung with from Junior HS thru graduation. Many years has passed since I seen any of you, but the great memories came back to me this weekend. Much time and work went into this event but the memories of this weekend will last forever! We just got back home to Maryland, but wanted to send you a quick note of thanks!! Hope to see you all again soon!!! God Bless You and Yours!!!! Elaine A. (Jones) Marshall
Hey Peter, Just want to give a "Big Thanks" to you and your Committee Members for a truly fantastic Reunion. I have not seen anyone since the 25th Reunion and is was so good to see everyone again but also sad to see how many we have lost since the 25th. I'm already looking forward to the next one. Take care and God bless, Bob St. John
Hello Peter, I wanted to add my thanks to you and the committee for all of the work each of you did to make our 50th Reunion an unforgettable experience. The best part for me was to renew friendships that have been dormant for too many years. Diane and I had a great time and are looking forward to her 50th (Linton Class of 1961-next October) as well as our next one. Thanks again to everyone who helped make our reunion such a tremendous success. Take care, Joe Wolfe
Hi Peter, I returned to Arizona a couple of hours ago and what a treat to open my email and be able to see THE PICTURE! Thank you for all the hard work you and the committee did to make our 50th Reunion phenomenal! It was wonderful to get reacquainted with so many - hard to believe that 50 years have really come and gone! I was also very touched by the memorial service you had for our classmates who are no longer with us. Thanks again, Doris Epstein, aka Mannies

Heavenly Father, we are gathered here today to celebrate our life long friendships. Many of us have known each other since elementary school. We all spent our adolescent years together sharing experiences we fondly recall.
Now it is fifty years since we left the familiar halls of Linton High School. We look back and remember our years together and our lives since those early days. We are grateful for the lives we were given, the families we raised, the spouses and partners who have been our companions in life.
Some of us have achieved much, others more modestly and still others have lived unremarkably. Some of us have been blessed with good health, others have experience health crises, some of us have health challenges today.
Devine Master, you know we have not been without failing and fault, sad times and challenges. We have made mistakes and have regrets. Through it all we have survived and grown. We have learned that our possessions are not important. It is our relationships that are important.
We thank you for this day, a chance to remember, to share and renew our relationships. We have so much more in common than what may have divided us.
Eternal Father, we have been greatly blessed and know that what you freely give exceeds our needs. May we express our gratitude in the way we continue to live our remaining days. Help us set aside guilt and resentment. We pray that you will grant us health, the opportunity to serve others, the richness of friends and family.
May we live our lives not counting the breaths we take but the times when our breath is taken away by the wonders of this world and our lives. At the end, may we have no regrets for what we have failed to do.
Bless this gathering today. Accept our gratitude for the food and beverage we have shared and will soon share.
Amen.
Over the fifty years since our graduation, we have lost 51 classmate from our class of 468. Many of us have not had the opportunity to participate in a memorial for our classmates nor deal with their loss. Today we have such an opportunity. Therefore our memorial will be presented as if our classmate had just left us, though some have been gone for years while other passed recently.
Let us remember those who are no longer with us,
those who have left us behind in their too short lives.
Lives we loved were torn from us.
Expectations the years once held have vanished.
The mystery of death has stricken us.
Oh God, you know the lives we live and the deaths we die- woven so strangely of purpose and chance,
of reason and irrational,
of strength and frailty,
of happiness and pain.
Into your hands our classmates have passed.
No mortal life you have made is without eternal meaning.
No earthly life is beyond your redeeming.
We hold up the names of our friends and classmates who have gone from their earthy life during the past fifty years.
Eternal God, you know all things in earth and heaven.
Fill our hearts with trust in you that,
by night and by day,
and in all seasons,
we may without fear commit those who are dear to us
to your never-failing love,
for this life and the life after life.
Amen

Members fondly recall dances, teachers and an undefeated basketball team
Monday, July 19, 2010
By Jeff Wilkin (Contact)
Gazette Reporter
Four members of Linton High School's Class of 1960 join hands after election to the student council. From left are Sally Harlow, treasurer; Elaine Angerosa, president; Gary Neapolitano, vice president; and Joan Basile, secretary. The gang from 1960 will conduct its 50th anniversary reunion Aug. 6-8.
Peter Maioriello remembers the dances. Sandra Campo Beauparlant thinks back to sorority pledges.
Tom Halstead recalls an influential teacher. Carole Ferrucci Capparella smiles at the memories of Steinmetz Park.
All four — with a big bunch of friends — will remember Linton High School on Aug. 6, 7 and 8. That’s the weekend Linton’s class of 1960 will gather at the Mohawk Golf Club (Friday), Western Turnpike Golf Club’s picnic grounds (Saturday) and Saratoga Race Course (Sunday) to talk over old times.
Maioriello, 67, who now lives in Saratoga Springs, remembers the high spirits and excitement that were part of Linton’s football and basketball teams. Students in the class of 1960 were proud of the hoop squad, led by local all-time great and future New York University All-American (and future professional) Barry Kramer. The team was undefeated during the 1959-60 season.

Maioriello remembers more than just sports. “I remember the dances, where all the guys used to be on one side and all the girls used to be on the other side,” he said. “You were afraid to make that long walk across the floor to ask someone to dance. You didn’t want to hear a ‘No’ and make the long walk back across the floor with your head between your legs.”
Beauparlant, 67, who lives in Schenectady, also remembers dances. They were held at churches, and attracted kids from schools all over the area. For other student fun, Candyland on Mohawk Avenue in Scotia was a popular place; Kays on Upper Union Street in Schenectady was another hangout. And after basketball games, Mother Ferro’s on Barrett Street filled up.
As young high school students, girls often pledged sororities, and had to perform chores like carrying books for their older “sisters.”
“You wore a little ribbon to show you were pledging,” Beauparlant recalled.
Big stars on the radio included Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Pat Boone, Johnny Mathis. Actors like Troy Donahue and Sandra Dee were tops at the movies.
Tom Halstead, 67, who now lives in the Douglaston section of Queens in New York City, was at Oneida Junior High School and spent one year at Linton before moving out of Schenectady during the fall of 1958.
“I remember my favorite teacher, Mr. Alex LaRocco,” Halstead said. “He was a very interesting man and a guy who really helped my interest in history.”
The inspiration was long-lasting. Halstead became a history teacher himself, and worked in a New York City high school classroom from 1967 through 1989.
Capparella, 67, of Charlton, said teens loved to tan during the summer … a habit that has not changed for young people during the past 50 years.
“I was a Goose Hiller, people who lived on Van Vranken Avenue, Avenue A, Avenue B,” Capparella said. “I remember summers going to Steinmetz Park and burning up in the sun, lying there for hours. We swam in the lake, and they had a deck.”
Other times, Carole and her friends gathered for pajama parties. “We’d do each other’s hair, we’d paint nails, we’d talk about boys,” she said.
Class members will revive the late 1950s and early 1960 during the first weekend in August. Members of the Class of 1960 interested in attending the parties are asked to contact reunion committee chief Maioriello at 428-4057 or through e-mail at petermaioriello@aol.com. Further information also is available at www.lintonhs1960.org.
